Ballet
At DSD we are known for our excellence in Ballet. All students are taught to be dancers. They are taught the importance of presentation, commitment and teamwork. We offer Classical Ballet for children from the age of 2 to 18.  We follow the Royal Academy of Dance grade and vocational Ballet syllabi; in addition we also offer non-syllabus and strength classes to compliment the syllabus classes. For adult classes see below. Our Toddler ballet is for toddlers as young as one. This class is designed to develop coordination, listening skills, musicality and focus. It is also a wonderful opportunity for focused parent/carer and baby time. We know that the term ‘dancer’ can mean very different things to different people. Whether your child takes ballet once a week for fun (and all the many other benefits ballet classes can bring) or if they have their sights set on a career as a dancer, the RAD syllabus offers a quality learning experience for all ages and abilities. The higher grades are Ofqual recognised and give points for UCAS university entries which in this competitive world can give your child the advantage needed to be accepted on the academic course they want.

Adult Classes
DSD has a range of adult classes and there is something for everyone. We currentally offer Ballet, Yoga and Contemporary classes at our beautiful studios in Billingshurst. We have Gentle Ballet classes for adults who have never tried Ballet before or are Silver Swans which is the RAD class designed for over 55 years old. Our Adult ballet evening classes are very popular and are recommended for adults who have danced to at least Grade 5 level when they were younger or for ex-professional dancers. These classes are non-syllabus. Alongside Ballet we also have yoga with three levels of classes - Gentle yoga for those less experienced or a need a gentle class, yoga for people wanting to challenge their yoga knowledge and Flow yoga for those who want a challenge.  Classes include vinyasa flow and some constant movement practice which focuses on flexibility through slow, rhythmic movement and deep stretching. We begin with Sun Salutations and build pace, posture by posture. These classes create focus, concentration and by using breath work they help bring clarity to the mind and balance to the body, this is a moving meditation which leaves you feeling energised.  The Wednesday harder class is a flow class designed to get the heart pumping in a gentle way. All classes are friendly and we welcome new faces.

Contemporary
Seniors can experience contemporary in the Saturday Modern and Tap class where Contemporary, Modern and Jazz are offered alongside Tap in one class. Adult Contemporary is a low impact and gentle class with no floor work.  Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. We follow TDSC contemporary syllabus with an optional chance to do an examination. Class will consist of warm-up, floor work, travelling steps and combinations as well as learning routines.

Street Dance
A fabulous Street dance class for the Key stage 2 children. Our classes are held in a positive and friendly environment where children can have fun whilst they learn. Students will learn different rhythms, tempos and moves. The students will have several opportunities to perform throughout the year, including our biannual theatre productions and termly showcases to parents. This class is for boys and girls who love to dance.
Modern & Tap

On a Saturday we offer Graded Modern and Tap. The term "Modern dance" covers styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Disco and Lyrical dance.

Yoga
Adult Yoga will follow vinyasa flow, or constant movement practice which focuses on flexibility through slow, rhythmic movement and deep stretching. Â Begin with Sun Salutations and build pace posture by posture. Creating focus, concentration and using breath work to help bring clarity to the mind and balance to the body, this is a moving meditation which leaves you feeling energised.
